Shoah Day May 5, 2005

Thanks to Israpundit for this

Shoah Day, 5 May 2005
From the Yad Vashem site:
Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah in Hebrew) is a national day of commemoration in Israel, on which the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust are memorialized. It is a solemn day, beginning at sunset on the 27th of the month of Nisan and ending the following evening, according to the traditional Jewish custom of marking a day.
Let this be a reminder to us all as to why we must support Israel with all our might. With this in mind, I am sorry to call attention to a worrisome article posted on Arutz 7 under the heading, "Most Americans Ignorant of Holocaust":
A survey by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) reveals that only one third of Americans know than six million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. Respondents in Europe who knew the number of those killed varied from 30 per cent in Poland to 55 per cent in Sweden.
Historical ignorance of Americans is more of a reason than ignorance of the Holocaust for the lack of knowledge of Americans, according to AJC executive director David Harris. Only 11 per cent of Americans and nine per cent of British acknowledged that anti-Semitism is a serious problem.
The survey also showed that most respondents in the United States and Europe said the Holocaust underscores the important of the existence of Israel as a home for Jews.We have to do better!
